Russ Miller

Russ Miller - saxophonist, flutist, clarinetist, composer, arranger, educator, adjudicator and clinician - has been active in the metropolitan Detroit area for more than thirty years.  He is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Music at Wayne State University.  His duties include: teaching jazz arranging and orchestration, directing jazz ensembles, teaching jazz improvisation, giving private instruction and mentoring students in preparation for senior and graduate recitals. 

Russ’ performance credits include the likes of J.C. Heard, Dizzy Gillespie, Joe Williams, Buddy De Franco, Rob McConnell, Rosemary Clooney, and Milt Hinton.  In addition, he has performed with many top national entertainers such as Bernadette Peters, Andy Williams, Sammy Davis Jr., Liberace, The Four Freshmen, The Four Tops, The Temptations, The Spinners and Martha Reeves.   

Russ has performed with his own group at the Detroit International Jazz Festival and has performed with the DIJF Big Band accompanying national artists.  He has written arrangements for the Dennis Tini/Russ Miller Jazz Quartet with strings and performed them at the 3rd South African Association for Jazz Education Jazz Festival in Durban, South Africa. Russ regularly performs with and writes arrangements for the Toledo Jazz Orchestra and the Masters of Music Big Band.  Some of his arrangements for jazz big band are published by University of Northern Colorado Jazz Press and can be heard on Smile, Ron Kischuk and the Masters of Music Big Band. In addition to his latest offering, You and the Night and the Music, Russ has produced three other CDs under his own name including: Two for the Road with vocalist Jeannine Miller, Suite Justice: A Jazz Setting of the Beatitudes for Jazz Big Band and Chorus and The Dance Eternal – The Dance of Life.

Jeannine Course-Miller

Jeannine Course-Miller - vocalist, saxophonist, flutist - has been performing as a featured vocalist in the Detroit are for 39 years. Her influences include local Detroit Jazz vocalist Ursula Walker as well as Jazz Legends Sarah Vaughn, Nancy Wilson, Blossom Dearie, Carmen McRae, Johnny Hartman and Kurt Elling, to name but a few.

Jeannine has performed regularly at the "Michigan Jazz Festival" and was also featured on the 2015 Detroit International Jazz Festival - Lady Day Tribute concert. Jeannine performs regularly with such artists as, Ursula Walker & Buddy Budson, Ralphe Armstrong,  Dwight Adams, Paul Keller, Gayelynn McKinney, Chris Collins, and husband Russ Miller.
